North Valley Young Republicans (NVYR) logo with an elephant on a red background

NVYR was a youth organization of conservatives, classical liberals, and libertarians located in northern Maricopa County, Arizona from 2022-2023. We focused on Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Cave Creek, Carefree, Anthem, Desert Hills, Peoria, Surprise, Glendale and rural Maricopa. These areas include AZLD2, AZLD3, AZLD4, AZLD27, AZLD28, and AZLD29 in addition to AZCD1 and AZCD8. Our members ranged from high schoolers (Youth Members) to people aged 40.

NVYR is proud to have supported multiple NVYR members who now hold elected office in Arizona’s State House and Fountain Hills’s Town Council. As of 2024, NVYR has evolved into the following organizations:

Young Republican Charters:
West Valley Young Republicans (Chairwoman: Jenna Rayne)
Scottsdale Young Republicans (Chairman: Chris Chavez)
Four Peaks Young Republicans (Chairwoman: Hannah Toth)

Young Policy Organizations:
Young Conservatives of Arizona (President: Ari Bradshaw)

How does NVYR rate Arizona’s legislators?

NVYR has a scorecard that rates how Arizona’s legislators vote on bills in the 2023 session. The scorecard is updated weekly with ongoing votes, and over 200 bills have been scored so far. NVYR’s Board, made up of people from the conservative, libertarian, and classically liberal movement in northern Maricopa County, has agreed on the positions taken on these bills.

If a legislator votes with NVYR’s position, they get 1, 3, or 5 points, depending on how important NVYR thinks the bill is. Minor bills get 1 point, Major bills get 3 points, and Critical bills get 5 points. If a legislator votes against NVYR’s position, they lose these points instead. If they abstain or are not present to vote, it doesn’t affect their score.

Sponsors of the bill receive or are subtracted an extra 1, 3, or 5 points as well depending on the position and importance of the bill. Co-sponsors receive half of this amount.

The #10 legislator is set at 90%, and the other legislators’ scores are determined by an algorithm that applies a curve, making sure that the #10 legislator is always at 90%. The maximum score any legislator can have is 100%, so those who would have a score above 100% are capped at 100%. NVYR uses the scorecard to hold legislators accountable to the next generation of Arizonans.

Legislators can earn higher scores by sponsoring more important bills and by voting with NVYR’s position in committee hearings and on the House floor.
